Route 40 map from 2008

Route 40 was created on December 29, 2008 to replace the eastern segment of the old Red Line, running from Sky Harbor Airport to Superstition Springs Transit Center. On July 26, 2010, the western end of the route was truncated from the airport to Tempe Transit Center. On July 25, 2011, the west end was truncated once again to Price-Loop 101/Apache Blvd Park and Ride. The west end was further truncated on April 26, 2021 to Sycamore/Main St Transit Center.
