Route 40 map from 2008
  • March 19, 2000 - Route 40 initially created to supplement the Red Line, traveling from Sky Harbor Airport Terminal 3, through the airport and down State Route 153 (now 44th St), onto University Dr, Mill Ave, and along Apache Blvd/Main St, ending at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT)
  • July 8, 2002 - Route merged with the Red Line
  • December 29, 2008 - Route 40 reintroduced to replace the eastern segment of the old Red Line, traveling from Sky Harbor Airport to Superstition Springs Transit Center
  • July 26, 2010 - Western end of the route truncated to Tempe Transportation Center
  • July 25, 2011 - Western end truncated to Price-Loop 101/Apache Blvd Park and Ride
  • April 26, 2021 - Western end truncated to Sycamore/Main St Transit Center
