  • August 18, 1997 - The earliest known routing of route 66 traveled from 48th St & Warner Rd, up 48th St, Elliot Rd, Priest Dr, Baseline Rd, and Mill Ave, looping through Downtown Tempe, then continuing up to Curry Rd, College Ave, McKellips Rd, and Scottsdale Rd, ending at McDowell Rd
  • March 19, 2000 - By this point, the southern end of the route had been modified to travel from Guadalupe Rd & Shannon Dr, along Guadalupe Rd, and up Mill Ave, through Downtown Tempe, and over to Scottsdale Rd & McDowell Rd
  • August 13, 2001 - Route 66 was combined with route 68, creating Route 66 - Mill/68th St, running from Scottsdale Fashion Square to Guadalupe Rd & Loop 101
  • July 27, 2009 - Northern end truncated from Scottsdale Fashion Square to Loloma Station
  • January 25, 2010 - Northern end truncated to College Ave & McKellips Rd and southern end rerouted down Kyrene Rd to Pecos Rd
  • July 26, 2010 - Northern end truncated to Tempe Transportation Center and southern end extended to Lone Butte Casino
  • October 25, 2021 - Route 65 was discontinued, so frequency was boosted along route 66 to compensate
