Route 96 map from 1997

Route 96 was originally created in August 1992 from the Mesa Sunrunner Blue route. The earliest known exact routing for route 96 is from August 18, 1997, when the route traveled from Alma School Rd & Guadalupe Rd up and over to Dobson Rd, serving the Tri City Mall, then ending at 8th St (now Rio Salado Pkwy) & Dobson Rd. On August 14, 2000, the route deviation on Main St was extended to serve the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT). On July 28, 2008, the northern end of the route was extended to Mesa Riverview and the southern end of the route was extended to Basha Rd & Fulton Ranch Rd. On December 29, 2008, service to EVIT was rerouted to the new Sycamore/Main St Transit Center to connect to the light rail. On January 24, 2011, the deviation to the Intel Plant was eliminated. The deviation along Price Rd was added on October 27, 2014. On April 27, 2015, the deviation to the Intel Campus was eliminated.
