History
Route 1 was created in October 2003 to replace part of the old Yellow Line route. Originally, the route ran from Washington/Jefferson & 19th Ave to the Tempe Transit Mall in Downtown Tempe. In July 2005, the route's western end was extended from 19th Ave to 27th Ave. When the light rail opened in December 2008, the eastern end was truncated from Downtown Tempe to Phoenix Zoo. In January 2013, the route was rerouted via Sky Train Transit Center, then subsequently truncated to it in July 2013. In October 2014, the route was further truncated on the western end, now ending at Central Station instead of 19th Ave, but was extended back to Washington St & Priest Dr on the eastern end. Finally, in April 2018, the route was changed to bypass Sky Train Transit Center.
