61 Southern Avenue

The earliest known routing of route 61 is from 1997, when the route started at Southern Ave & 43rd Ave in the west, down 3rd Ave and along Lynne Ave, then back up 2nd Ave and along Southern Ave again until 48th St, where the route deviated up to Alameda Dr & Fair Ln, before going back to 48th St and continuing along Southern Ave to Westwood, looping back via Holmes Ave and Alma School Rd. By 2000, the eastern end of the route had been extended over to Vineyard and Iron Ave. On January 8, 2001, the eastern end of the route was further extended to Superstition Springs Center. On February 24, 2003, route 61 was modified to travel up Central Avenue to the new Ed Pastor Transit Center. On January 12, 2004, this deviation was eliminated. Finally, on April 23, 2023, the western end of the route was extended from 43rd Ave to 51st Ave.
