History

The earliest known routing of route 3 is from August 18, 1997, when it traveled from 43rd Ave & Union Hills Dr, down 43rd Ave, serving Metrocenter, then continuing back down 43rd Ave, then along Van Buren St to the Phoenix Zoo. By March 19, 2000, the 43rd Ave section was split off and route 3 was routed between Van Buren St & 51st Ave and the Phoenix Zoo. On January 14, 2002, the route was extended west to 67th Ave. On July 25, 2005, a route 3A extension was created from the western terminus of route 3 to serve Avondale. On July 26, 2010, route 3 was extended west to 4th St in Avondale to replace route 3A.
