- August 18, 1997 - The earliest known routing of route 561 traveled from the State Capitol, through Downtown Phoenix, along 3rd and 5th Ave, I-10, then up 79th Ave, McDowell Rd, and 75th Ave to Desert Sky Mall, then continued along Thomas Rd, 83rd Ave, Van Buren St, and into Avondale, likely similar to the map on the right, then ending at Van Buren St & Dysart Rd.
- July 8, 2002 - Western end of route truncated to Desert Sky Mall
- January 12, 2004 - Route eliminated and replaced by I-10W RAPID
